In late May 2014, I submitted a black skimmer photo that I took during a recent vacation to the 2014 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. I soon found out that my photo was chosen by the editors to be featured in the Outdoor Scenes - Week 9 Gallery. I must say that it is an honor to have been chosen by the editors and have my photo featured among such incredible pieces of photographic work.
In addition to awarding prizes for first, second, and third place, National Geographic is running a Viewer's Choice contest where website visitors can rate every photo in all 14 weeks of galleries on a 1-to-10 scale. Voting for the Viewer's Choice winner ends on Monday, July 7, 2014 (I presume at 11:59 p.m. EST?). To vote for my black skimmer photo entitled, "Skimmer Skimming", visit the voting webpage at http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/traveler-magazine/photo-contest/2014/entries/rate/outdoor-scenes-week-9/#/259852. Contest winners will be announced no later than July 31, 2014.
National Geographic has also made downloadable wallpapers available of my black skimmer photo. Individual wallpaper offerings are optimized for display on desktop, tablet, or mobile devices. To download a wallpaper, visit http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/traveler-magazine/photo-contest/2014/entries/wallpaper/outdoor-scenes-week-9/#/3.
I'd like to wish everyone who submitted a photo to the contest good luck. Thank you for your vote! -Paul

UPDATE: The winners were announced on July 31. Unfortunately, my photo was not chosen by the judges to win any of the prizes. However, it was an honor to have been selected for the Outdoor Scenes - Week 9 Gallery. Congratulations to Marko Korosec on winning the 2014 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest with his powerful supercell thunderstorm photo. Well-deserved!
